Project Overview
Prior to engaging in the full design of the Tulalip Resort Casino Renovation, JTK Engineering conducted a detailed facilities infrastructure assessment. Working directly with the facilities team we reviewed the condition and capacity of existing equipment and piping systems serving the casino. A key part of the assessment was understanding changes that had occurred at the facility since it was originally constructed.
Energy modeling was also done to assess the impacts of the increased cooling demand on the casino from modern gaming machines, which will nearly double in heat dissipation to the casino as gaming machines are upgraded. JTK published a detailed report providing a path forward to address the need to replace end-of-life equipment, the increasing demands on the building’s HVAC infrastructure as well as accommodate the interior renovation of the casino.
Once the report was reviewed a design direction was decided on which addressed the thermal comfort of the existing casino and also allowed for the casino expansion to be connected to the existing central cooling plant.
Major system upgrades included:
- Chiller and pump addition
- Cooling Tower Addition
- Replacement of all rooftop air handlers
- Modification to existing air handling systems
In addition to the infrastructure upgrades, JTK provided HVAC and plumbing engineering to accommodate the phased renovation of the entire interior of the existing casino such that it could be done in conjunction with the infrastructure upgrades.
